We are happy to accommodate work experience students in years 10 and higher. We do ask that all applicants complete and return a short application form to make sure we are able to provide you with a suitable placement that matches your interests.
The table below documents the placements on offer in the Faculty of Science & Environment under our Work Experience programme which is currently one of the largest in the region. These are the only placements we have the capacity to support and we do not coordinate placements for other faculties in the University.
There are two types of placement, one for year 10/11s and one for year 12/13s. All our placements are for one week only.
We only offer work experience for year 10/11s in June and July. This coincides with the months when most schools schedule their work experience week and our supervisors have fewer undergraduate teaching commitments. If you wish to apply you need to complete the application form and send it to the address provided. The initial closing date for applications is December 12th 2014 but if we do not fill all vacancies (and we reserve the right to decline applications if they are not well completed), we will introduce a second deadline of February 27th 2015.
In some subject areas we offer more challenging work experience for sixth formers. Dates for these placements are more flexible and set by mutual agreement. If you identify a vacancy in a subject area of interest in the table, submit an application form suggesting what week(s) you are available – the more dates you can offer, the greater the chance that we can provide a placement.
NB Before you apply please check that your placement choice shows as vacant in the status column.
Please note, dependant on the time of year and staff availability, we may not be able to place all applicants.
